Hiking holiday/summer holiday

For centuries now, the middle-class Bozen families have been using the summer months to enjoy the fresh air on the Ritten amidst the most magnificent natural surroundings and terrific panorama. Participate in this tradition and experience the beneficial air on the Ritten. In the summer, the Ritten offers a programme full of variety. In the finest hiking area in the Alps with a network of paths totalling 350 km, you can hike, enjoy nature, rest in shady woods or explore the mountain pastures with their cows and horses.

Almost every weekend, a traditional country or village festivity takes place in some village or other with music, performances and fun, organized by the Ritten clubs and societies. The most well-known one is probably the Oberbozen "Kirchtag" on 15th August, which begins with an interestingly arranged parade.

A further "festive day" for the Ritten inhabitants is also the "Rittner Almfest" on 24th August, named "Bartlmas" (Bartholomew's day). On that day you can combine a hike up or on the Rittner Horn with a cheerful celebration. When the animals are herded together you can get to know the "Saltner" (herdsmen): That is certainly a very special experience. Should it be too hot to hike, there are two swimming pools on the Ritten, one in Klobenstein and the other in Oberbozen. In Wolfsgruben there is a lake where you can go swimming, too.

In July, the "Julifeierum" takes place, always on a Thursday, in the villages Klobenstein, Oberbozen and Unterinn. Here, the people from the Ritten and the others, "not from the Ritten" meet after work to be spoiled by the local landlords with good fare from their kitchens, or else to drink a glass of wine or chilled beer. Also in the summer months, there are culinary trips (in the evening) on the Rittner Bahn. This special railway journey by "Rittner Bahnl" offers a delicacy at each stop and so you end up with a first class 6 course menu, accompanied by good music and wine.
